Job Description

Union/Affiliation:C.U.P.E. Local 3338Pay range:$23.60 Hourly Plus 9% in Lieu of BenefitsSFU Department Descr:Library Access ServicesPosition Grade:6# of openings:1Biweekly Hours:35Provides reserves, fines processing, and general loans services. Receives and handles reserves requests. Assists in assigning processing tasks to other library staff. Resolves problems related to reserve items. Processes reserve course materials; responds to patron queries and circulation needs at the public service counter; and collects, records, and processes payments for fines, sales, and external borrower library cards. Balances and records daily cash receipts. Resolves disputes and appeals related to penalty assessments and lost books. Collects and collates statistical information from a variety of departmental sources.Qualifications:High school graduation and general courses of moderate duration (one semester or equivalent) in database, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.

  • 2 years of related experience.
  • equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.
  • 40 wpm keyboarding with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent knowledge of Library terminology, methods, and practices.
  • Good knowledge of Library Congress Classification system.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Ability to use spreadsheet and database applications (e.g., Excel, Innovative III) at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to use word processing applications (e.g., Word) at a basic level.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to organize and assign/check the work of other staff.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to complete a high volume of work within deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 10 kg.
