Job Description

In addition to fries, McCain also produces other foods, including appetizers, oven meals, vegetables, and juice for both the retail and foodservice industries.McCain Foods (Canada) is currently seeking a Safety Manager to join our leadership team, in Coaldale, AB. The position provides leadership and support in the areas of Health, Safety, Training and Workers Compensation Administration to the Coaldale, AB Plant, Warehouse and Office Teams. This position will have a dual reporting relationship to the Plant Manager as well as to the Regional Safety Director.Key Responsibilities:

  • Development and Implementation of H&S local strategy, processes, plans and procedures
  • Pivotal lead and trainer for behavioral safety training initiatives such as KYB methodology and Dupont Safety Systems.
  • Responsible for safety portion of E2 plan along with associated drills and reporting through SWIM system.
  • Hands-on guidance and ensuring adherence to the Key Elements of Safety (KES)
  • Maintain injury and illness records and reports
  • Lead site training program for new hire orientation, personal safety and general training for salaried and hourly workforce. Site training coordinator will report to Safety Manager.
  • Investigation of H&S incidents, risks and implementation of resultant action plans/projects
  • Conduct Industrial Hygiene surveys, Job Hazard Analyses (JHA’s) and related research
  • Conduct KES & COR H&S Audits, recommending and assisting in the correction of Hazards Identified
  • Participate and administer the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)
  • Administer the medical management program for injured employees
  • Ensure compliance with health and Safety Regulations
  • Report required information to regulatory agencies and leadership teams
  • Directly responsible for maintenance of workers compensation, training, industrial hygiene and safety records
  • Provide overall leadership to the facility in regards to H&S, and assist employees in understanding their responsibility for safety.
  • Participate in Managing for Daily Improvement walks weekly.
  • ISNetworld Contractor Management – Manage system in conjunction with site Project Engineer.
  • Direct the Security team (contracted).
  • Liaison with FM Global Insurers regarding fire protection for the site.
Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary degree is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional certification is an asset.
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the design, set-up, implementation and continuous improvement of safety management systems in a factory setting; such as, lock-out/tag-out, confined space entry, electrical safe practices, fall protection, forklift safety etc.
  • Computer knowledge and understanding of associated software (i.e SAP, Excel, Power Point)
  • Must be flexible with your schedule to support training events and activities
  • MUST promote and demonstrate safe workmanship. Must take pride in workmanship
  • Must demonstrate the ability to lead and influence others in the value of continuous improvement
  • Must be able to tactfully challenge the status quo and stimulate change initiatives
  • Effective communicator; encourage open communication and sharing of ideas amongst team members
  • Must possess the ability to organize and manage the implementation of multiple worklists
