Job Description

If you are a passionate individual who is interested in building a career within an agriculture and agri-food business in the potato sector and are interested in working for a family owned business, then there is a place for you at our table.JOB PURPOSE:Reporting to the OT Manager/Director, the OT Specialist II will be responsible to provide identify and evaluate application architectural and comprehensive system design options, and make recommendations that align with business requirements. Responsible for ensuring that projects and initiatives are aware of and adhere to all defined standards and best practices concerning the optimal methods for information presentation.Not only possesses full technical knowledge of most phases of systems analysis, but also considers the business implications of the Operations Technology applications or technologies on both the current and future business (factory) environments.The OT Specialist II must be fully experienced in Operations Technology concepts, systems design, applications and infrastructure requirements to meet the needs of both manually controlled and automated MES and SCADA systems in a Factory setting.They must be fully aware and educated on appropriate vendor solutions. They need to understand interfacing methods between key applications as well as a good working knowledge of network systems and design components.A good working knowledge of Cyber Security concepts and design requirements would also be an asset.Ability to create and present the project proposal, define user requirements, and manage all aspects of the project and detailed specifications from which programs will be written.Ability to plan and manage all aspects of ensuring a quality project including QA testing, training, and implementation.Must be able to work independently within broad guidelines, function effectively under time constraints and work on a number of complex projects simultaneously. You understand the intricacies of working in a global enterprise environment with key stakeholders, vendors and offshore resources.As a visible face of OT to your customers, must always act with tact, diplomacy, and assertiveness to enforce our standards. Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, along with excellent verbal and written English communication skills are essential.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand, advocate and augment the principles of operations technology strategies
  • Analyze enterprise business drivers, either independently or in conjunction with business users, to determine corresponding change requirements and document as solution requirements
  • Analyze the OT application environment to detect critical deficiencies, and recommend solutions for improvement
  • Design and lead the implementation of application solution(s) based on enterprise business requirements and OT strategies
  • Facilitate the evaluation and selection of OT application software products, as well as the design of standard software configurations
  • Lead proof of concepts and conduct continuous research to seek new ways to enhance delivery capabilities and solutions
  • Consult with application or infrastructure development projects to fit applications and/or infrastructure to architecture, and identify when it is necessary to modify the solution architecture to accommodate project needs
  • Identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures or culture) and financial impact of the Enterprise Solution
  • Document all solution architecture design and analysis work
  • Tier 3 Support for critical or highly complex changes or problems, which may include the design and/or approval of point solutions, and identifies system impact for the solution approved
  • Ability to manage multiple requests at one time while meeting (or exceeding) stakeholder expectations
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to OT project team members, to OT management and to business users, including the senior executive management level
  • Effectively able to communicate with other staff in order to support their development and promote information exchange
MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
  • Progressive experience in OT system design and development is required
  • Must show advanced technical knowledge in at least one or more OT systems.
  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle and/or agile development methodologies.
  • Must have good analytical and design skills at both the application and system level.
  • Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations and to estimate the financial impact of solution design alternatives.
  • Experience working on major system projects.
  • In depth knowledge of a number of OT applications at the system level.
  • Expertise in knowledge exchange and liaison between OT and business stakeholders/users, as well as mentoring staff
  • Accountability - this position is responsible and accountable for completing assigned work packages or tasks on time and on budget.
  • Active Listening - understanding needs of business users/customers and working with functional groups.
  • Communication Skills - requires strong communication skills to influence and persuade in their working relationships.
  • Leadership - providing guidance for protégé (junior staff)
  • Formal Presentations - required to present information to IT staff at all levels and business users/customers.
  • Tact and diplomacy - ensure professionalism when dealing with internal customers and outside vendors.
  • Assertiveness - keeping deliverables on track by ensuring resources are available when needed.
  • Mastery of handling multiple complex issues during the same time period.
KEY QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCES:
  • Minimum 10+ years’ IT / OT experience
  • University Degree or Community College diploma or equivalent experience in the field of Computer Science. A minor in Engineering would be an asset.
  • Proven experience working on major system projects and supporting solutions for the business.
  • Proven experience in systems design and architecture within a system and across integrated systems.
o Ability to work in highly dispersed, multi-cultural teams, in dynamic and high-demand situations heavily tied to deadlines. Proven inter-personal skills to successfully deal with colleagues from all levels of the organization, as well as third parties. Proven expertise in knowledge exchange and liaison between IT and business stakeholders/users. Ability to learn, recommend, and support emerging technologies that can be adopted to support and enhance McCain’s initiatives Rockwell Automation certifications (if applicable) would be an asset.OTHER INFORMATION
