Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:This position is responsible for supporting, initiating and enhancing programs and strategies designed to encourage the understanding, participation and support of the Labour/United Way Partnership. They help build and develop relationships with unions and union members, including stewardship strategies to develop fundraising relationships, volunteer opportunities, new revenue opportunities, and union-centered approaches to improving workers’ knowledge of United Way. They help lead and facilitate Labour Community Advocate training courses, will be heavily involved in fundraising, and are a strategist on co-developing community impact focused campaigns and volunteer opportunities with the labour movement.SUMMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Key Responsibility: Partnership Promotion

  • Co-develops and acts on union stewardship strategies
  • Works with and advises volunteers, staff and leadership from both movements on the Labour/United Way Partnership, positions, and programs
  • Participates in and supports committees representing the CLC/UW Partnership
  • Works with labour organizations in developing policy, position papers and reports, as required
  • Assists in recruitment and orientation of union members to Boards and Committees of United Way British Columbia (“UWBC”)
Key Responsibility: Fundraising
  • Sets financial and non-financial goals as part of fundraising campaign planning and strategies
  • Analyzes fundraising data and behaviours, and cross-references it with trends and opportunities in the labour movement
  • Works closely with other departments to support revenue generation strategies as they relate to the labour movement, including advising volunteers and staff on pertinent labour viewpoints
  • Promotes financial support for UWBC to elected labour representatives, union staff, and in unionized workplaces
Key Responsibility: Labour Community Mobilization
  • Designs community engagement opportunities which mobilize and develop community leadership in partnership with the local labour movement
  • Develops and stewards a pool of labour community activists to assist with community engagement opportunities, training, and support local fundraising efforts using collaborative human-centered design methodologies
  • Identifies and leads local volunteer engagement opportunities for the labour community to increase an emotional connection to the local community impact work being done by United Way British Columbia
Key Responsibility: Training
  • Plans and conducts Labour Community Advocate training courses, including developing new curriculum and teaching materials
  • Identify opportunities to integrate Labour Community Advocate training into union education and United Way outreach plans
  • Provide continuing consultation and support for Labour Community Advocates
  • Support other curriculum delivery for Canadian Labour Congress (“CLC”)- develop programs, as needed
SUMMARY QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Successful completion of diploma program in Trades Training, Political Science, Labour Relations, Conflict Resolution, or other post-secondary career-specific programs
  • Completion of Labour Education Training courses hosted by unions or labour organizations
  • Training in Facilitation Methods in Adult Education, Fundraising, and Volunteer Management are assets
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the labour movement
  • Experience facilitating labour education to union members and supporting union-led charitable projects are assets
  • Excellent ability to develop strategies that nest into departmental and organization-held objectives and goals, including conceptualizing, developing, initiating, and presenting ideas and strategies to internal and external peers and leadership
  • Thoughtful, creative, and engaging virtual and in-person facilitator for workshops and adult education training, including development of new curriculum (as needed) and adaptation of existing curriculum
  • Supportive volunteer management skills
  • Exceptional collaborative team working skills
  • Strong ability to organize workload, meet deadlines, and navigate complex work schedules
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated tact and sound professional judgement when responding to matters concerning sensitive information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint and Teams
  • Familiarity with the function and use of a CRM tool
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must be comfortable reporting to and working with leadership and other teams remotely
  • Regular hours outside of business hours to attend meetings and events
  • Ability to travel to other regions and communities within BC, including over-night stays - This position attends the CLC Pacific Region Winter School as a facilitator for at least 2 weeks every year
  • Requires a drivers license and access to a vehicle
