The role supports Librarians in the design and delivery of effective face-to-face, e-learning and blended learning experiences, including support for the creation of a variety of learning objects. The Library Assistant (Teaching and Learning) also coordinates logistics of events and orientations, provides reference assistance to library users, and participates in Western Libraries committees and working groups as required.QualificationsEducation:

  • 3-year university bachelor’s degree
Experience:
  • More than 1 year and up to and including 2 years’ experience working in an academic library setting, demonstrating library resources and services to individuals and groups
  • Experience providing reference services in an academic library setting, or similar
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to identify and understand customer needs, and provide appropriate solutions to meet these needs
  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to plan and organize work so that all tasks are performed efficiently
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of a team to achieve unit goals
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience, with a demonstrated ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and accomplish a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use and demonstrate a variety of library resources, including Libguides and instructional software and the Library catalogue and online databases.
  • Intermediate computer skills using a variety of software, including Internet browsers, Microsoft Office (including creation of spreadsheets with use of formulae) and content management software.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy to ensure seamless access to teaching and learning resources with the ability to analyze and synthesize sizeable amounts of detail/data
  • Library expertise including familiarity with Library of Congress classification system
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule (evening and weekend hours) to accommodate Western Libraries’ events and activities
