Job Description

Temporary Full Time (For approximately 18 months)Mississauga Site 37.5 hours/weekWork Arrangement: 3 days on site; 2 days/remote Position Summary:ErinoakKids is currently seeking a detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Health and Safety Specialist within our People and Culture Department. Reporting to the Health, Safety and Disability Management Consultant, the Healthamp; Safety Specialist is responsible for contributing to the overall maintenance and compliance of the ErinoakKids Occupational Health, Safety and Disability Management program.Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a safe and healthy work environment by leading by example and reinforcing the Health and Safety program at ErinoakKids;
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act at all times;
  • Support the Health and Safety Excellence program;
  • Conduct regular internal health and safety audits and inspections;
  • Support Disability Management in conjunction with the Health, Safety and Disability Management program by managing claims, including an early and safe return to work process;
  • Track, record and report WSIB cases, including supporting employees through the process;
  • Manage client and staff Incident reports, compiling statistical reports on accidents, injuries and modified work on a monthly basis;
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments;
  • Maintain health and safety as well as Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) policies, ensuring current and in compliance with health and safety legislation and best practices;
  • Support in managing the immunization program, including collecting all required immunization records from new hires;
  • Support with the delivery of occupational health, safety and wellness services program;
  • Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee and Infection Control Committee as required;
  • Liaise with external partners including OSI, WSIB and St. John Ambulance;
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee health records according to ErinoakKids policies and procedures;
  • Provide First Aidamp; CPR Training to staff (as per St John Ambulance standards) and managing training program.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business or a related field;
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience developing and maintaining a health and safety program;
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, AODA and legislative Ministry of Labour requirements;
  • Achieved or actively working towards a disability management certification, or Occupational Health and Safety designation is preferred;
  • IPAC certification and First Aid Instructor certifications are considered an asset;
  • Healthcare or childcare industry experience would be considered an asset;
  • Strong experience managing WSIB claims, reporting and tracking accidents and injuries;
  • Ability to carry projects or initiatives while working independently;
  • Strong time and project management skills in order to effectively manage multiple priorities within tight timelines;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written; prior experience providing Health and Safety training is an asset;
  • Proven interpersonal skills to deal with all levels of the organization;
  • Advanced MS Office computer literacy;
  • Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality, sound judgment and sensitivity in dealing with internal/external communities.
