  • Assists with the maintenance of monographs stack areas according to established procedures.
  • Clears, sorts and shelves library materials daily, including Reference and Periodicals materials returned to Access Services; records statistics; shelf-reads on an ongoing basis; maintains shelves in proper order.
  • Shifts the monographs, assembles shelves as required; dusts shelves and books.
  • Participates in inventory.
  • Brings to the attention of the Circulation Supervisor any library materials requiring mending.
  • Assists the Circulation Supervisor with special projects related to the maintenance of library stacks, as assigned.
  • Searches stacks for missing items, and reports items found or still missing.
  • Retrieves items from stacks generated from paging slips when required.
  • Assists with the maintenance of the journals display shelves.
  • Collects and records required statistics
  • Provides directional information to users and refers all other user questions to a physical or online service point.
  • Promptly reports security incidents and building maintenance problems according to established procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma (DSS) or relevant commercial or technical training or experience may be substituted, provided a minimum of Grade 10 (two (2) years of high school) completed.
  • Basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken English. Communication skills in French are an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to locate, sort and shelve books according to Library of Congress Classification.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tasks accurately, reliably, and efficiently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Evidence of dependability in adhering to schedules.
  • Physical ability as attested by successful completion of medical evaluation to the University’s satisfaction. (to push a full book truck (wheeled) weighing approximately 136 kg. and lift heavy volumes averaging 2.2 kg., while paying attention to personal safety and the safety of others; ability to stretch and bend while shelving and to stand for periods of at least 90 minutes.
  • Experience working in a library is an asset.
