In this position you may also be assigned to the Emergency Communications Centre as a Firefighter Dispatcher.Note : Shift work including weekends and statutory holidays is required.Typical duties include: Perform fire prevention and inspection duties in assigned area. Teach basic fire prevention and life safety techniques at schools and at public venues. Participate in public relations projects involving visits, demonstrations and community events as directed. Responsible for all fire suppression duties necessary to save life and property, combat, extinguish and/or prevent fires by rapidly and efficiently performing varied duties as required under emergency conditions. Provide emergency medical response and aid; perform rescue/extrication operations where necessary to prevent loss of life or further injury from any cause. Perform a variety of rescue related duties to protect the public and lessen the severity of injuries related to motor vehicle collisions including the extrication of victims from collisions, and incidents involving hazardous materials. Perform various maintenance duties to fire services apparatus, equipment, and department property. Attend training classes and study assigned materials related to the emergency services including, but not limited to, firefighting, fire prevention, rescue, emergency medical services and Hazardous Materials. Candidates will be expected to certify and maintain certification within their various assignments. Perform duties of the Emergency Communications Centre as assigned. Please email your seven documents to talent@regina.ca and citing the competition number in the subject line.Candidates will be screened on the following criteria:Copy of High School Certificate or Official High School Transcript.International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Certification for National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level I and II.Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) Certification and must possess a current practicing license in the Province of Saskatchewan. Copy of Saskatchewan license, current PCP 2011 NOCP, ITLS and CPR certificates. *Please note that at this time, we will also accept proof of successful completion of Primary Care Paramedic and a restricted license with the ability to obtain the COPR during the probationary period.Must possess a valid driver’s license with air brake endorsement. A Class 3A is an asset. Submit the front and back of your license.A current five-year individual driver ’s abstract (no more than three months old from application date).A current Criminal Record Check (no more than three months old from application date).A current York Firefighter Fitness Assessment Certificate (no more than six months old).*NOTE:York Fitness testing will be made available to all candidates the week of December 5-9, 2022.Candidates may elect to complete the York certification on their own time.A current York certificate must be submitted to the department upon requestAll Firefighter recruits must:Have the ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions, act quickly and calmly in emergency situations, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships Be in excellent physical condition Have personal health habits that develop and maintain resiliency Have the ability to observe, identify and communicate about mental health matters Have the willingness to participate in mental health sessions and counseling for the development and maintenance of positive and resilient mental health.All applicants must meet the vision and hearing requirements:Near vision acuity of 20/40 or better binocular, uncorrected or corrected. Far vision acuity of 20/40 or better binocular, corrected with contact lenses or spectacles OR 20/100 or better binocular for wearers of hard contacts or spectacles or new soft contact lens wearers, uncorrected. Far vision acuity of 20/100 in the worse eye, corrected or uncorrected. Normal colour vision (Ishihara & Farnsworth testing methods accepted) for use of equipment such as imaging devices.
