Job Description

Job descriptionReporting to the Director of Programs and Operations, the Resettlement/Housing Worker enhances the dignity and quality of life by assessing clients in personal crisis and assisting and advising on housing, social assistance, education, and other health and social issues.Our values of hospitality, compassion, faith and acceptance are demonstrated by professional collaboration with statutory agencies and other voluntary bodies to provide comprehensive case management services for the clients of Good Shepherd Ministries.Through his/her work, the Resettlement/Housing Worker contributes to Good Shepherd Ministries #39; commitment to value each person #39;s inherent goodness and potential for growth in a positive and life-affirming manner.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide case management/counselling services to resettlement clients focusing on assisting clients in seeking alternative long-term accommodation.
  • Help clients link with services when appropriate and coordinate services utilized by clients using a case management model.
  • Assist clients during the resettlement process and provide support, direction, and encouragement.
  • Assist clients withquot;life skills quot; education, literacy provision and information and career planning.
  • Provide information on community resources and government programs to the clients.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to improve access to services.
  • Identify gaps in services and to help develop new programs in concert with other departments.
  • Refer clients seeking drug/alcohol rehabilitation placements to the in-house D.A.R.E. (Drug and Alcohol Recovery Enrichment) Program and external resources, as necessary.
  • Respect and protect confidential and sensitive information.
  • Consistently present Good Shepherd Ministries and its services in a positive manner and adhere to customer service guidelines and procedures as established by Good Shepherd Ministries.
  • Attending case conferences, case consultations and other meetings as directed.
  • Maintain orderly files and appropriate case documentation.
  • Assist in the smooth operation of the Resettlement/Housing Program under the direction of the Manager and assist in providing the necessary training for the Aftercare/Life Skills Development Workers, students and volunteers.
  • Follow the guidelines of the City of Toronto #39;s strategic direction as it relates to
  • housing and case management.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and ethical standards of Good Shepherd Ministries at all times.
  • Perform any other related tasks that may from time to time be assigned by the Director of Programs and Operations or the Executive Director, or designate.
Qualifications:
  • Actively practices the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Ministries.
  • Two years #39; minimum case management experience.
  • Bachelor #39;s degree in social work or equivalent.
  • A thorough understanding of homelessness, poverty, health and related issues, and knowledge of relevant statutory and volunteer services in order to effectively serve the homeless and the disadvantaged is required.
  • Solid experiences in assessment, case management, crisis intervention, and case
  • coordination is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and government policies pertaining to housing, social assistance, health, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
  • Excellent written communication and computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills to maintain teamwork and work professionally with clients, visitors and co-workers.
  • Creativity and flexibility in achieving desired outcomes.
  • Hospitable in dealings with co-workers, clients, public, volunteers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Available and responsive to the needs of others.
  • An ability to appreciate the complexity and demands of#39;hard to serve #39; individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills to maintain teamwork with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
