Job Description

The Winnipeg Football Club is adding a new role, Assistant Controller, to our Finance team. Under the leadership and guidance of the Controller and VP of Finance, you will assist with the financial reporting and business processes for Ticketing, Retail, and Food and Beverage operations. You will provide assistance with financial management, including monthly financial analysis and forecasting of the business operations for both the Winnipeg Football Club and Valour FC Inc.What you will do:

  • Review of day-to-day accounting functions, monthly closing work, and account reconciliations prepared by the Accounting Manager.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reporting package and monitoring of monthly budgets vs. actual performance for the VP of Finance and Controller.
  • Assist the Controller with the year-end audit process and drafting of financial statements and required note disclosures.
  • Preparation and review of monthly government remittances including GST and PST.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies to maintain accurate financial information.
  • Develop understanding of underlying business processes (e.g., A/R, A/P, etc.) and the associated interfaces with the general ledger.
  • Identify business operations policy and procedure improvements and provide recommendations.
  • Collaborate with other departments of the organization to obtain all necessary information.
  • Assist with special projects as required.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of accounting experience in a senior accountant position or a similar role with financial oversight responsibilities.
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA designation, CPA candidate or equivalent experience.
  • Strong organizational, communications, time-management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Consistent and reliable attention to detail, accuracy and validity.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment. Must work well under pressure of deadlines.
  • Understanding of accounting principles, practices, and associated computer systems/ interfaces.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Familiarity with Sage accounting software is considered an asset.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours (e.g. evenings and weekends) as frequently required by event or business necessity.
  • Demonstrated dedication with the ability to lead projects from origin through execution.
